Mondays
Monday on the Main Line. Come join the largest evening bike rides on the Main Line. Multi-level rides meet at 5:30 PM and leave at 6:00 PM sharp every Monday (except holidays) May thru September at the Church of the Saviour, 657 N. Wayne Ave, Wayne, PA. We meet in the rear parking lot of the church adjacent to the gym (Bld. F). Bathrooms (for changing clothes) and water are available inside the gym. Northeast Training Ride. 5:30 PM. Class B-/C+, about 20 miles. A ride into Bucks County and back. Thursday Night B Training Ride. 6:00. Class B, 15 mph, 25-30 miles. It's time to board the Bryn Mawr Local. Leaves from the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. Saturday C+ Training Ride. 9:00 (As the weather gets warmer. watch for possible
time changes from thelist@phillybikeclub.org.) Class C+, 13-14 mph, 30-40
miles. Ambler and Plymouth Meeting are among the common
destinations, and we do our best to ride as a cohesive group.
Routes are as flat as possible. We'll try to keep a steady pace
and effort: rolling speed on flat terrain ~15 mph. Meet at the

Sunday May 4 - The Schuylkill Trail. Class C, 14-15 mph, 50+ miles. Since this ride was rained out last month, let's try again. We depart from Lower Perkiomen Park on Mill Road in Oaks, promptly at 10:00, Egypt Road and 422. Here's your chance to pack on some easy spring miles by riding the Schuylkill Trail from the Lower Perkiomen Park to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. We will keep to the trail except in Manayunk where we use the roads to climb the few hills, and since this is a long C ride we will stop and regroup when necessary. Expect the mph on the trail to be in the 14-15 mph and less when we climb. Bring snacks, money, and H2O, we will stop. Meet at Bruno's (Northwestern & Germantown Aves in Chestnut Hill/Lafayette Hill) for a scenic ride to Central Park (Doylestown) and beyond, as we head northeast and then south for a Wawa stop in Warrington. Sunday, May 18 - Mexican 1/2 Metric Century. C-/C/C+, 21 and 35 mile routes. Leaves at 9:30 from Lower Perkiomen Park, just off US 422 at the Egypt Rd interchange. This route was once part of SCU's spring event. There will be three leaders and two distances. The longer route features a rest stop at Sanatoga Park were we can enjoy pizza from Cutillo's Take Out Kitchen. It's up close to the Limerick nuclear power plant (the locals swear that the pizza never gets cold). The entrance to the park is on Egypt road on the east side of US 422. Go to the end of the access road to the back of the park, where the ranger station and bathrooms are. Bring H2O & $ for pizza. A multi-club ride. Sunday, May 18 - King Cong II. 9:45. Class B, 14-15 mph, 50 miles. Eat your Wheaties Saturday night in preparation for four climbs of over 1.5 miles, including the mighty Musconetcong Mtn, which may leave you asking "Why?", followed only a mile later by 2.4 mile Tunnel Hill Rd. In between you'll be treated to some great descents, including the final one which drops nearly 900 ft. The final 13 miles are flat. No sit-down lunch, but there are three snack/water options. Pickup 10:30, Woodbury McDonald's to Salem, 52 miles. Kingsway Regional High school Rt. 322 & Kings Hwy to Salem, 42 miles. Saturday, May 24 - Sex On The Beach! 9:45. Class B/B+, 16-17 mph, 66 miles, C/C+, 13-14 mph, 60 miles. One of my favorites. The early part of the route passes through marshlands teaming with birds on the way to the Delaware Bay at East Point Lighthouse, where we may spot horseshoe crabs performing their prehistoric mating ritual. After a quick water stop at mile 23, we head inland for long stretches of car-free riding where you can pedal for miles and miles without clipping out, and then back to the bay for lunch served by the friendly people at Higbee's Caf in Fortescue, the weakfish capital of the world. The return takes us through a nature preserve and historic Mauricetown, with its 19th century sea captain's houses. Cue sheets provided. Start location is the Maurice Twsp. Elem. Sch. in Pt. Saturday, May 31 - The New & Improved Montgomery County Meander. 9:00. Classes B, 15-16 mph, and C+/B-, 13-14 mph. 50-55 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern & Germantown Aves in Chestnut Hill/Lafayette Hill. This scenic route through MontCo is one we've done before, but we've made adjustments to cross certain major intersections more safely, and extended the route a bit for more summer miles. There are two rest stops - first at Merrymead Farm Market (quick snack & porta-potty) on Rt 363, past West Point. The second will be a more leisurely lunch break at Whole Foods in North Wales. Terrain is mostly rolling with a couple of moderately heart-pumping climbs (eg, Camp Hill Rd, Pen Ambler). We will stop to rest & regroup as needed.
