2008 Events

May

Sat. May 3 - Farmlands Tour  Brookdale Community College (Lincroft, NJ). This family-friendly event with marked rides from 18 miles to a metric century (62.5 miles) and century (100 miles). Sponsored by Central Jersey Bicycle Club

Sat. May 3 - MS Crankin for a Cure Middletown High School. 2 25-mile loops benefitting MS Society

Sun. May 4 - Five Boro Ride NYC, NY. Tour New York City with 30,000 cyclists. The largest recreational cycling event in the U.S.

Sun. May 4 - Great Green America Metric Renaissance Faire Grounds, Manheim PA. 30-63 miles Cyclists receive free admission to the Great American Green Fest

Sat, May 10 - SCU Quad County Metric Green Lane Park, Deep Creek and Snyder Roads, Green Lane, PA 18054. 21, 31, 45, 53, 68, or 76 miles at your own pace on low-traffic back roads. The 21-mile route avoids the longest climb and is suitable for casual riders. The longer routes are on rolling to hilly terrain. The 53- and 76-mile routes include the 8-mile "Intensive Climbing Unit" extra-hilly segment with 1,200 ft additional climbing. A flat 10-mile ride on the unpaved Perkiomen Trail is also available. Registration includes marked route, cue sheet, SAG support, rest stops, and a post-ride meal with vegetarian option. Rest stops have a large assortment of home-baked snacks. New for 2008: Register for the combo - Quad County Metric and Lake Nockamixon Century - and save $5! Save time and money - register for both events for only $45 with one convenient transaction. Receive two T-shirts (one long-sleeve Quad County Metric shirt on May 10 and one short-sleeve Lake Nockamixon Century shirt on August 24) if you register by April 27! Camping is available at the start location.

Sat. May 10 - Bike Eric Florence, NJ. 10, 20, 30, or 50 miles. Benefits Eric Potts's Foundation; established for a paralyzed lacrosse player. $35 by 5/5 or $40 after, includes buffet lunch at finish.

Sat. May 17 - Rotary 100 Bike Tour Fully supported 25, 50, 64 and 100 routes. Lightly traveled back roads in Burlington and Monmouth Co. From rolling hills and horse farms to the solitude of the Pines, this ride is one of the most unique and beautiful rides in New Jersey. All routes are well-marked, and have well stocked rest / food stops, SAG support and lunch at the end of the ride.

Sat. May 17 or Sat-Sun 17-18 - Coast the Coast Bike MS Ride From Monmouth University, raise money for MS biking down the beautiful Jersey Shore. Starting May 17, enjoy a 25-mile, 50-mile, 85-mile one-day, or 170-mile two day ride you'll never forget to help raise money for MS.

Sat, May 17 - Bike Around the Bay Erie, PA, 10-50 miles around Presque Isle and Lake Erie.

Sun. May 18 - Bloomin Metric Norwalk, CT. Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club’s Annual Bloomin’ Metric. 25 miles, 75 kilometers and 100 kilometers.

Sat-Sun, May 17-18 - Ride for the Feast Rehoboth Beach DE to Baltimore, MD. 140 miles. $50 registration + $1200 minimum pledge. Benefits Moveable Feast, the only meal delivery program for homebound people living with AIDS in the greater Baltimore area.

Sun. May 18 - Chester County Challenge for Cancer The Challenge event is a beautiful scenic ride through hilly Chester County. There are distances of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 63 miles. There are rest stops on the course and full SAG support. The ride benefits the Cancer Center of The Chester County Hospital.

Sun. May 18 - Bonkers Metric Ridley Creek State Park, Media PA. 18, 35, 50, or 65 scenic miles on the best roads in Del Co. Hilly Terrain, Delaware Valley Bike Club

Sun. May 18 - Montauk Century Montauk, Long Island. Starting from Manhattan or Babylon, NY. 66, 100, or 145-mi routes that are mostly on low-traffic roads on Long Island's beautiful South Shore. All routes end in Montauk, and return transportation is available. Five Borough Bicycle Club.

Sun. May 18 - Phila Tour de Cure 2008 Warrington, PA. 15, 40 or 60 miles. $15 registration + $150 minimum donation. Benefits the American Diabetes Association.

Wed, May 21 - Ride of Silence Please join us at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Wednesday May 21st @ 6:45 P.M. for a ride to honor riders killed or injured by motorists, and to bring attention to the need to share the road with bicycles. This ride will take place in many locations worldwide, at appx the same local time.

Sat. May 24 - Shorebird Metric Century American Cancer Society's 16th Annual Shorebird Metric Century. Held at the Delmarva Shorebird Stadium, it features rides of 15, 35, and 65 mile routes on lightly traveled country roads. Fully staffed rest stops, road side support, bike shop setups, great food and music are all staples of this ride supporting a wonderful cause.

Sat. May 24 - Bike Jam Patterson Park, Baltimore, MD. Recreational rides, races, bike and heath expo, food, alcohol, live music.

Fri-Mon, May 23-26 - Kent County Spring Fling Chestertown MD. Baltimore Bicycle Club. Four days of cycling on the upper Eastern Shore with meals and lodging at Washington College.

Sat. May 24 - Shore Bird MetricSalisbury MD. Benefits American Cancer Society Distance 15, 35, and 65 miles Ride through the flat MD Eastern Shore.

Sat. May 31 - Historic Morris Bike and Hike Loantaka Park, Madison, NJ. Benefits Morris Habitat for Humanity

Sat-Sun, May 31 - June 1 - Chesapeake Bay Asthma ride Salisbury MD. 3 routes on Sat and 2 on Sunday. Includes crab fest on Sat night for all cyclists. Benefits the American Lung Association.

Sun, June 1 - Bike 4 Sight Media, PA. Ride 2, 13, 25, 50, or 62 miles through Delaware and Chester Counties and New Castle, DE. Longest rides tour grounds of Winterthur Museum and Country Estate. Great after-ride food. Benefits the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, eastern Pennsylvania’s premier rehabilitation and training center for people with vision loss.

Sat, June 7 - Kelly’s Ride 3 Starts: Medford, Berlin, or Mays Landing NJ, Benefit ride in honor of Kelly Vodges of Cinnaminson, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident. Ride benefits 3 charities. 65 & 40 or 25 miles, ending in Ocean City, NJ. Return buses available.

Sat, June 7 - Get Ready Metric Fort Mott Pennsville NJ. Get Ready Metric - 2 50-kilometer loops. Lunch, sag, water stops included. South Jersey Wheelmen.

Sat, June 7 - Pedal to Preserve Garden Spot High School - New Holland PA. 6, 20, and 51 mile rides through beautiful Lancaster County. Benefits the Lancaster Farmland Trust, preserving the farmland of Lancaster Co. Includes Breakfast\snacks, Water stops, Snack stops, Facilities, Hot Lunch, T-shirt (pre-reg), SAG support.

Sat, June 7 - World Naked Bike Ride - "In June 2008, in cities around the world, people will be riding bikes naked to celebrate cycling and the human body. The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against car culture." (Editors Note: I'm speachless!)

Sun, June 8 -ACS GW Bridge Challenge Fort Lee, NJ. Salute to the area's cancer survivors and their families. After crossing the world's most-traveled bridge, walkers, runners, and cyclists can choose one of several scenic courses: 10, 25, 33, and 63 miles.

Sun, June 8 - Hat City Cyclefest Bethel CT. Fully supported with routes from 12-100 miles, hills/rolling terrain through Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.

June 13-16 - Cycle Messenger World Championships Toronto. "Cycle Messenger World Championships (CMWC) is the ultimate urban cycling competition"

Sat, June 14 - 24 Hour Challenge Ride - Middleville, Michigan. "a bicycle ride to test your endurance and determination"

Sat, June 14 - Ride for Autism Lincroft NJ. 7 scenic routes through Central New Jersey. Includes breakfast. Starts at Brookdale Community College

Sat, June 14 - Double Creek Tour Dover, PA. 30 or 63 miles through scenic and lightly traveled roads of northern York and Adams counties. Ride along the Conewago and Bermudian creeks for which the ride was named.

Sat, June 14 - Flatlands Tour Chesapeake, MD. 30 or 63 mile (metric century)

Sat, June 14 - Longest Day High Point NJ to Cape May NJ. Infamous 200 mile one-way ride with alternate locations for 100 mile or 200 KM routes. Central Jersey Bicycle Club

Sun, June 15 - Bike Freedom Valley Bike Freedom Valley, PA. Three starting points: Philadelphia Art Museum, Rosemont, or Phoenixville. 8, 22, 32, 42, 50, 68 or 100 miles. Benefits the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia

June 20-25 - Bike Virginia 5 days of Virginia scenery, history, culture and hospitality. Join 2,000 cyclists of all ages experience the best biking adventure Virginia can offer.

Sun. June 22 - French Creek Iron Tour Kimberton, PA (New Location) . Iron Furnace Country. 20, 50, 68, or 100 miles. Well-marked courses and cue sheets, SAG support, lightly traveled roads and breathtakingly beautiful countryside, with well-stocked rest stops. $35 before June 8 includes T-shirt. Supports the French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust.

Sat June 28 - Lutheran Charities SteepleChase Center Square, PA. Ride through Montgomery County benefiting eight social service agencies.100-mile century, 63-mile metric century, 50-mile half-century, 31-mile quarter century, 18-mile short course, 10-20 mile family fund ride options, Registration is $25 with preregistration up to week before event but can register day of. Minimum pledge amount is $50. Ride starts from St. John Lutheran Church at 1802 Skippack Pike, 19422.

July

Thurs-Sun, July 24-27 - Cycle Across Maryland Emmitsburg MD. $125 registration includes 3 days of supported riding and one day of unsupported rides, all with cues sheets and marked routes on flat terrain.

Sat, July 26 - Connecticut Challenge Fairfield, CT. A non-competitive bike ride that raises money for the Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic at Yale Cancer Center. 12, 25, 50 or 100 miles of Connecticut's most beautiful countryside.

Sat, July 26 - Lobster Ride. Rockland, Maine. The Bicycle Coalition of Maine hosts the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll, Maine’s most scenic bike rides along winding country lanes and the breathtaking rockbound coast in gorgeous Midcoast Maine. The ride features four marked routes from 16-100 miles, with fantastic ocean views, fresh ocean air, maps, support services, rest stops with food and water, and a fresh Maine lobster roll dinner. Lobster Riders also get collectable Lobster Ride socks! You might even see a lobster pot, buoy, boat or even a real lobster (lobster sightings not guaranteed but we have a very high success rate!) and Maine's own world-famous Lobster Bike will be there! This fun event benefits the BCM's important education and advocacy work for better bicycling in Maine.

Wed.-Sat., Aug. 6-9 - 4th International Fixed Gear Symposium Traverse City, Michigan. "A Celebration of Cycling Simplicity - A Gathering of New Friends." Four days of riding, racing, eating, socializing, workshops and exhibits. One gear. No coasting.

Sat, Aug 9 -Bridgeton Zoo Ride Schalick High School, Centerton, NJ. 25 & 50-mile loops that pass by the Bridgeton Zoo & through Mullica Hill. Sponsored by the SJ Wheelman

Sat, Aug. 9 -Eat a Peach Challenge Westminster MD. 12 to 100 miles. Carroll and Frederick counties are known for their beautiful, hilly countryside.

Sat. Aug. 9 - Ride to See - A bike tour of Kent County MD Galena Lions Club is sponsoring their 4th annual bike tour of beautiful Kent County Maryland. Show and go begins at 6:00 a.m. at the Galena middle school in Galena Maryland. 4 routes (15, 30, 62.5 and 100 mile)pre-registration $20 day of $25. Fri.-Sun. Aug. 15-17 -PPTC Allenberry Resort Bicycling Weekend Relaxing weekend at Allenberry Resort & Playhouse in Boiling Springs, PA. Rides range from 11 to 75 miles of rolling terrain. The play is Thoroughly Modern Millie. Lots of parties, swimming, tennis, Darwin's meatballs & jokes and Cheryl's yummy horsdoeuvres.

Sat, Aug. 16 - Knights for Sight Century Tour the scenic back roads of Maryland's Eastern Shore (and Delaware) while helping to alleviate the suffering of blindness in the world. Distances: 15-miles, 35 miles, and 65 miles.

Aug 14-18 - The Mass BikePike Tour 4 day tour thru Central Masaachusetts. 30, 50 or 65 mile routes. Most meals included. Proceeds benefit MassBike.org, the Massachusetts statewide advocacy group.

Sun, Aug. 24 - Lake Nockamixon Century Warrington, PA. 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles through Bucks county on rolling/hilly terrain. All rides visit beautiful Lake Galena in Peace Valley Park. Sponsored by Suburban Cyclists Unlimited

Sun, Aug. 24 - LIVESTRONG CHALLENGE Montgomery County Community College, Blue Bell PA. LIVESTRONG Challenge Philly. 5K run/walk & 10, 40, 70 & 100 mile rides.

Sun, Aug 31 - Brandywine Tour Delaware Valley Bicycle Club. Pocopson Elementary School, near Chadds Ford, PA. Ride 25, 50, 68, 80, or 100 miles through the beautiful Brandywine River Valley

Sun, Sept 1 - Donut Derby Lehigh Valley Velodrome, Trexlertown PA. fun race with rest stops every 12 miles where racers can get water, use the bathroom, and get DONUTS. For every donut eaten, three minutes are deducted from your official finish time. Sag supported, accurate cue sheets, well marked roads, trophies, awards, prizes, the coveted SPARE TIRE CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS and a rollicking good time are all hallmarks of this excellent Labor Day adventure. A hot lunch is available after the ride.

Sat, Sept 6 - Civil War Century Thurmont, MD. Ride 25 mi flat, 50 or 62 mi rolling, 77 or 105 mi hilly, on low-traffic roads. Ride through famous historical sites with breathtaking scenery. Baltimore Bicycle Club.

Sat, Sept 6 - Tour de Farms Vincentown, NJ. 13, 25, and 50 mile routes starting at the Jack Allen Early Country Living Museum. Riders visit farms along a given route and may purchase produce using coupons called Farm Bucks. Produce purchases are later returned to the starting point by Burlington County using SAG wagons.

Sat., 6-? Sept. Legacy Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Utah, What some have called the "worlds most scenic bicycle ride," 3, 7 & 10 day options.

Sun, Sept 7 - Bike Philly - A family-friendly bike tour celebrating the freedom of car-free Philadelphia streets, ride through historic neighborhoods, taking over the Parkway, passing through Old City and exploring hidden corners of Fairmount Park.

Sun, Sept. 7 - 2008 Transportation Alternatives New York City Century Bike Tour New York City Century Bike Tour. 15, 35, 55, 75 or 100 mile routes.

Sun, Sept 7 - Southern Maryland Fall Century Indian Head, MD. 100, 30, 63, and 100 mile routes. Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club. Cycle through scenic and historic Southern Maryland.

Sat, Sept. 20 - Harford County Pink Ribbon Ride 4, 12, 25, 62 and 100 miles through Harford County. Proceeds raised will support the programs of the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance. Marked routes, SAG, rest stops, cue sheets, maps provided as well as lunch. Showers available for use after the ride. $25 if preregistered by September 6, 2008 and $30 after September 6. Teeshirts available for $15 with preregistration.

Sat, Sept 20 - Jersey Devil Century Parvin State Park, Centerton, NJ. Ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles by combining loops from the central food stop; flat terrain. South Jersey Wheelmen.

Fri-Sun, Sept 26-28 - Weekend in Lancaster Lancaster PA. Three days of scenic cycling, lodging at the Mill Stream Country Inn on Friday and Saturday nights, buffet dinner on Saturday night at the Bird-in-Hand Restaurant and more. Baltimore Bicycling Club.

Sat. Sept 28 - Twin Lights Ride Sandy Hook, NJ. Scenic Monmouth County and the Town of Highlands on the edge of the Atlantic near Sandy Hook

Sat, Oct. 4 Belleplain Fall Century - Woodbine, NJ. Late season ride through the flat and scenic southern NJ forests and coastal towns with a trip past East Point Lighthouse. The ride consists of two (2) main loops, each containing a short or long route option. You can ride any combination which can be combined for a Metric (63 mi.) or Full (100 mi.) Century Ride. Shore Cycle Club.

Sat, Oct. 4 - Sea Gull Century Salisbury, MD. 63 or 100 miles on very flat terrain. The century route goes to Assateague Island. The weekend activities include unsupported rides on Oct. 5 and 7.

Fri-Sun, Oct. 10-12 - PPTC Rehoboth Beach Weekend Rehoboth Beach, DE. Flat terrain. Advance registration is required.

Sun, Oct. 12 - Gap Gallop Century Bethlehem, PA. 50, 68 or 100 mi. Great scenery, varied terrain and lightly traveled roads make it one of the most enjoyable centuries in the Northeast. Check points at 25/50/75 miles with snacks, drinks, bathroom facilities - Clothing drop at 25 mile checkpoint - your leg warmers, etc. will be returned to the finish. Lehigh Wheelmen Association

Sat, Oct. 18 - Tour du Port Baltimore, MD. Tours of downtown Baltimore. One Less Car.

Sun, Oct. 19 - Covered Bridges Ride Tinicum Park, PA. Enjoy the beautiful fall foliage of Central and Upper Bucks County in Pennsylvania. Travel through up to six historic covered bridges. Central Bucks Bike Club.
