Saturday, August 16 - From Here to Hawk Mountain. Class B, 14 -15 mph, 120 miles. Hawk Mountain has always been a favorite challenge for the club, but this time we will go for all the glory. No driving half-way there this time. We start from Bruno's, Germantown & Northwestern Avenues, at 8:00. We follow the Schuylkill River bike path for as long as we can, then wind through Berks and Schuylkill Counties and up the indomitable dark side of the mountain. We'll zip on down the "easy" side and work our way home through mostly rolling terrain. Several rest stops and lunch along the way. Bring your climbing gear (ropes and pitons), since the climb of the mountain exceeds 17% at the top. Rain, or high temperatures forecast above 95 cancels. Leader: David L. Saturday, August 16 - Roll Along the Back Roads! Class C++, 12-14 mph, 35 miles. Meet at the Folsom Pathmark on MacDade Boulevard in Ridley Township at 7:45. Leaving the train station at 8:00, we bike by Neumann College, the highest point in Delaware County, and continue through Glen Mills to Ridley Creek State Park. Then by Media, and via the Smedley/Leiper Trail back to the R.P. train station. Expect to finish well before noon. We'll enjoy some significant hills (be prepared) and see lots of back road beauty. We will follow the Schuylkill trail up to the BCP picnic area in the Perkiomen Valley Park. There will be no cars on the trail. The surface is macadam and pretty much flat. Depending on our speed the ride up will take a little more than 1 hour, so we will arrive fashionably late. Return time or times will be agreed to before leaving the train station. If enough members show we will organize into groups by the riders class, no one will dropped. Show and go. Rain at the start cancels.
