Saturday, February 2 - Lunch in Avondale. Class B, 48 miles. Leaves from Chadds Ford Elementary School, 4/10 mile west of Rt 100 on Rt 1, at 8:30. We will ride up the Brandywine Creek to Springdell and then down to Avondale to lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Saturday, February 2 - Glenside Library. Class B, 13-15 mph, 30-40 miles. The Glenside rides are back! This ride will visit portions of eastern Montgomery County and/or lower Bucks County. We'll generally head out on rolling terrain with some small hills, but nothing too difficult. Rain, ice, snow or temperatures below 30 degrees at 9:00 cancels. Saturday, February 2 - Folding Bike Ride. Class C, 12-13 mph, 20 miles. All wheels welcome. Learn about folding bikes while riding through gently rolling terrain past Amish farmland in Lancaster county with the friendly members of the Bike Friday Club of America: http://home.dejazzd.com/rlg717/. Starts 10:00 from Paradise Elementary School, Belmont Rd and US Rte 30. Parking lot is accessible from Rte 30 or N. Belmont Road. Pace is an easy amble, no one will be left behind. Sunday, February 3 - The Classic is Near. Class A/B, 15-16 mph, 60 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern & Germantown Aves in Chestnut Hill/Lafayette Hill for the 8:30 start of this preparatory ride for the legendary Philadelphia Spring Classic. Hopefully it will be cold, windy with some type of falling precipitation. Well, maybe just cold. Plan is to head out toward Evansburg and cut over to Valley Forge Park, making 1 or 2 passes over the mountain. Expect 1 brief convenience store stop. Please call to confirm. We'll do what's becoming a "classic", relatively flat, easy-paced winter ride out to Skippack in Upper Montgomery County. There will be a lunch at Mal's American Diner to warm up and get social! Sunday, February 10 - Coventry For Lunch. Class B, 15 mph, 40 miles. Rolling to hilly ride through bucolic northern Chester County to the Coventry Diner for lunch. Most of the hills are on the way out to stay warm and build up a healthy appetite. The diner is one of my favorites, as the food is tasty, inexpensive and the portions are huge. We'll take the easy way back to Valley Forge, I assure you! Ride cancels if the estimated daytime high is lower then 35. Please call to confirm if there is any question. Saturday, February 16 - Gourmet Coffee Express. Class C, about 25 miles. Starts from in front of Lloyd Hall, #1 Boathouse row, on Kelly Drive at 10:00. A very friendly and sociable ride from Center City to a suburban Starbucks where we can warm ourselves for the jaunt back. The coffee shop destination and distance will depend on the temperature at start time. The warmer it is, the longer the ride and vice versa. Possible destinations: Rydal, Chestnut Hill or Manayunk. Saturday, February 16 - Bike Nine Creeks or Ski Ft. Washington. Class C, 20 or 30 miles. If there is snow, novice XC-skiing in Fort Washington State Park. If there is no snow, road bike to Jenkintown via Hatboro and Nine Creeks. We will stop at Fresh Fields in Jenkintown for lunch. The return is about 10 miles and the total ride will be about 30 miles. Ride can be shortened to 20 miles if needed. Meet in the main parking lot near the bird watching deck at Fort Washington State Park. The park is located on Route 73 West, about 2 miles after Route 73 crosses Route 309. Heading west, after you cross Bethlehem Pike, the entrance is less than 1 mile on the left. From Stenton Ave, turn right onto Joshua Road. The park is on the right. SEPTA R5-Doylestown stops at Fort Washington, less than 2 miles away. Monday, February 18, Presidents' Day - Behind the Bush. Class C+, 12-13 mph, 30+/- miles. Starts 10:00 from Delancey St Bagels in the Wynnewood Shopping Center, Wynnewood Road just off Lancaster Avenue. Get there early & have breakfast. We'll go to Conshohocken for food and a visit to the "brownfields" redevelopment site that was recently in the news. Observe Dead Presidents Day with a bike ride, and find out why Mr. Bush traveled all the way from Foggy Bottom on the Potomac to Conshy on the Schuylkill. Pennypack MTB Ride. Class B, 16+ miles. Mountain bike on the singletrack trails of Pennypack Park. Leaves at 9 from the Rhawn St parking lot, between Ryan and Rowland Sts. Terrain is rolling hills. Sunny Sunday Afternoon Ride. Class D, usually 12 - 22 miles. Meets every Sunday at noon in front of Lloyd Hall, #1 Boathouse Row, on Kelly Drive. For the beginner who wishes to improve his/her cycling skills, for those new to Philadelphia who want to explore the little-known, out-of-the-way places in the city and near suburbs. All February rides are Show and Go.
Sunny Sunday Spin-Off Ride. Class C, usually 25-30 miles. A true C ride which cheerfully waits to regroup. All welcome. Meets 12:15 at the rock near the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. After Work Ride In the Dark. Class B, 25-30 miles. If the roads are clear and the projected evening temperature is above 30 degrees, we'll ride the quiet back-roads of Gloucester and Salem Counties in southern New Jersey. Bring lights and wear reflective clothing. Call or email leader to confirm that the ride is happening. Start 6:00 at Albert's Organics, Bridgeport, NJ. From Phila. take 95 South to Rt 322 East, over the Commodore Barry Bridge to NJ. Then first exit onto Rt 130S for about 1 mile, and first left onto High Hill Road. Night Riders. Class C, 10-20 miles. As the daylight fades, we don our bike lights and ride into the dark. Come for a spin through southern Delco. Lights and reflectors and other night riding gear are necessary. Meet at 6:00 in the parking lot of the Pathmark on MacDade Blvd in Folsom, Ridley Township. Wallyball. February 8 and 22. Come to The Aquatic & Fitness Center at Riverside Racquet at 600 Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd at 7 PM for a fun and invigorating game of Wallyball. What is it?
