Saturday, March 2 - Tour of the Octoraro River Valley. Class B, 52 miles. Starts 8:30 from the Unionville Elementary School in Unionville, Pa, on Rt 82, 2.7 miles north of the Rt 1 bypass. We will tour southern Chester County and the Octoraro Creek Valley on our way to a Mexican or Italian restaurant in Cochranville. Saturday, March 2 - Five Creeks. Class C+, 12-13 mph, 25+/-miles. Starts 10:00 from Delancey Street Bagels in the Wynnewood Shopping Center on Wynnewood Road just off Lancaster Avenue. Get there early and join us for breakfast. This is a shorter and less hilly version of the Six Creeks ride. This ride goes along a bunch of local creeks. It includes a lot of nice suburban riding and some pretty, mostly empty creek roads. We will regroup often and we have included a stop for lunch at the Villanova Diner. Cue sheets provided. Monday, March 4 - Solo Cross Country Cycling Talk. Leigh Weber, member of several local bicycle clubs, speaks about his 5,500 mile, 5-month solo journey interrupted by events of 9/11; training, planning, and stories of the road. Free Library of Philadelphia, Central Branch, Montgomery Auditorium, 1901 Vine St, 6:30 p.m. Free, all welcome.

Saturday, March 9 - Coatesville. Class B, 55-60 hilly miles, 14 mph. Last month we stopped at the Little Chef II in Parkesburg and this month we will have breakfast at its sister restaurant, The Little Chef, in Coatesville. We will leave the White Clay Preserve parking lot, just west of the intersection of Good Hope and Broad Run Rds on London Tract Rd, at 8:00. The ride will take a southern route through Coatesville, getting a great view of the steel plant from the southern rim of the valley. We'll head north over the ridge, taking a more rural route to the reservoir and back through the King Ranch area of Chester Co. These hills will get you ready for the Assault on Mt. Greylock in June. Saturday, March 9 - Valley Forge to Birchrunville. Class B-, 13-14 mph, 40-50 miles. This easy-paced, sociable ride is a beauty which goes west into the scenic areas of Chester Springs and Birchrunville. Depending on the weather, we'll make the ride shorter or longer to fit. There are hills, but the route is worth it. There will be a brief bakery stop in the first 13 miles and then a lunch stop in Kimberton. Call or email if the weather is questionable. Meet at 9:30 for a 9:45 sharp start, at the Valley Forge Park lower lot. Go about a quarter of the way around the circle around Visitors Center off Rt 23 to get there. Saturday, March 9 - Glenside Library. Class B, 14-16 mph, 30-40 miles. The Glenside rides continue! Meet at the Glenside Library at Keswick Avenue and Waverly Road in Glenside, PA for the 10:00 start. This ride will explore the nearby areas of eastern Montgomery County and southern Bucks County. We'll generally ride on rolling terrain, with some small hills but nothing too major. Rain, snow, or temperatures below 30 degrees at 9:00 on day of ride cancels. Must call or e-mail to confirm. Saturday, March 9 - Bike or Ski Valley Forge Park. Class C, 12-13 mph, 16 miles. Biking or novice skiing. Meet in the lower parking lot at Valley Forge Visitor Center. Bill was snowed out of this event in January, so he will try again. If there is no snow, we will road bike 16 miles to New York Bagels in Chesterbrook. Must call/email for the start time and equipment to bring. Additional options, for more miles, are to hook up at Ridge & Midvale, and on the bike path at the SEPTA Spring Mill station. You must call or e-mail for the times to meet en route. Buckman Ski Shops (one is on Main Street, Manayunk) and REI rent cross-country skis. Sunday, March 10 - Cobweb Cleaner. Class B, 15-16 mph, 45-50 miles. Shake out those winter cobwebs with an early season ride through the beautiful Brandywine Valley. Leaves promptly (no grace period) at 9:00 from behind the Wawa in Chadds Ford at the junction of Rts 1 and 100 in Chadds Ford, Pa. Canceled if it's raining or projected snowfall is to begin within 2 hours of start time. From Center City, take Rt 95 South to Rt 322 West, to Rt 1 South. Sunday, March 10 - 4th Annual Leprechaun Breakfast. All classes, 38 miles. Ride up the Delaware River along the ridge line on the N.J. side to the firehouse in Upper Black Eddy, Pa for their Leprechaun Breakfast. Some hills on the outbound ride, but you are rewarded with a nice 4-km decent from the ridge, on Horseshoe Bend Rd, into Frenchtown. Nothing but flat stretches along both sides of the river on the return. Starts 9:30 from the Village Square Shopping Center parking lot on the corner of Main St (N.J. Rt 29) and Cherry St, on the north side of Lambertville, NJ. Cue sheets provided. The only requirement is that you make it to the fire house before noon. AYCE Breakfast is just $5.00. Sunday, March 10 - Kolman's Sunday Ride. Class C, about 30 miles. Starts 9:00 from Lenape High School, Church & Hartford Rds, Medford, N.J. If it's below 35F, stay in your warm house. Saturday, March 16 - Peace Valley Park and Doylestown. Class B-, 13-14 mph, about 50 miles. Leaves from Bruno's at the corner of Northwestern & Germantown Avenues at 9:30. Rolling hills with a couple of climbs up to the park. Brief water and bathroom stop in the park at about 25 miles. Food stop for bagels and your favorite shmeer in Doylestown. Saturday, March 16 - Northeast Ramble. Class C, 30 to 40 miles. Madge & Dick continue their leisurely paced rides in the Northeast, all west of the Delaware River. Brunch/lunch stop along the way; no cue sheets, all ride together. Meet at the Burger King, north of Oxford Circle on Castor Ave. Leaves 9:30 sharp. If weather doubtful or below 32, please call. Saturday, March 16 - Valley Forge. Class C+, 12-13 mph, 45+/-miles. Starts 10:00 from Delancey Street Bagels in the Wynnewood Shopping Center on Wynnewood Road just off Lancaster Avenue. Get there early and join us for breakfast. This ride offers a good mix of a few steep hills, several miles of rolling hills, and 12.5 miles of a flat bike path. Don't miss this great opportunity to start getting in shape for spring. We will have at least one Wawa stop and we will regroup often. Cue sheets provided. Saturday, March 16 - Family Ride. Class D, 6 to 10 miles, less than 10mph average speed. Departs 10:00 from the Rhawn Street entrance of Pennypack Park. A Northeast Philly community event every other Saturday from March through mid-June. Ride with the BEEP (Bicycle Education Enhancement Program) teachers from Austin Meehan Middle School and with members of the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia. Helmets required. Sunday, March 17 - B Ramble, Erin go Cycle. Class B, 15 mph, 45 miles. Come out for a special edition of the Ramble: we will pay homage on Saint Patrick's Day to the likes of Stephen Roche, Sean Kelly, Ciaran Power, David McCann, Deirdre Murphy, and other great cyclists from the great Republic of Ireland. We'll start out, appropriately enough, from Saint Patrick's Church, 242 S. 20th St, between Locust & Spruce, at 12:15. We'll cruise by the Irish Fountain in West Fairmount Park and check out other local sites with a connection to the Emerald Isle. Special recognition will be given by the ride leaders to any cyclists wearing green. Sunday, March 17 - Leprechaun Hike. All classes, about 7 miles. Mixed terrain, mostly flat. Starts 1 PM in Evansburg State Park, from the picnic pavilion in the main parking lot of the park (the same place where we have the food/rest stop on the Scenic Schuylkill Century). Hike the trails along the Skippack Creek and try to find the "Pot of Gold" that was left behind after last year's century ride. Bring snacks and water. A good hike for beginners. Departs at 10:00 from the Jersey side of the Tacony Bridge, outside of the Dunkin Donuts. Canceled if raining or temps below 35 degrees. Sunday, March 31 - Pancake Flat Folly. Multi Level: Class B, 16-17 mph, 56 miles; Class C, 13 mph, 43 miles. This ride tours the flatlands of Gloucester and Salem Counties in New Jersey. The long route goes out to Parvin State Park before turning back, the short one to the diner in Elmer. Take your pick, both rides are excellent and a good respite from the hills of the Icicle Metric. And both have a lunch stop. Starts at 9:00 from the parking lot of Albert's Organics, Bridgeport, N.J. From Center City, take I-95 South to Rt 322 East. Go over the Commodore Barry Bridge and take the first exit for Rt 130 South. Then drive 1 mile and take the first left onto High Hill Road. Albert's is the second warehouse on the left. Pennypack MTB. Class B, 16+ miles. Mountain biking on the singletrack trails of Pennypack Park. Leaves 9:00 from the Rhawn St parking lot, between Ryan and Rowland Sts. Terrain is rolling hills. Permits are required and are the same permits used for the Valley Green/Wissahickon trails. Trail permit request can be found at http://www.phillybikeclub.org/mtb.html. Sunday Morning Breakfast Ride. Class C, up to 35 miles. Bring locks. Meet 8:45, 22nd & Spring Garden, for a delightful ride to a delightful place to have a delightful breakfast. May be canceled because of snowy, icy streets and/or temperatures below 32, so check first. B Ramble. Class B, 14-15 mph, approx. 40 miles. Meet noon at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. Check the Monthly Calendar for leaders and ride descriptions.

Sunny Sunday Afternoon Ride. Class D, usually 12 - 22 miles. Meets every Sunday at noon in front of Lloyd Hall, #1 Boathouse Row, on Kelly Drive. For the beginner who wishes to improve his/her cycling skills, for those new to Philadelphia who want to explore the little-known, out-of-the-way places in the city and near suburbs. All March rides are Show and Go.

Sunny Sunday Spin-Off Ride. Class C, usually 25-30 miles. A true C ride which cheerfully waits to regroup. All welcome. Meets 12:15 at the rock near the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. Tuesdays

After Work Ride in the Dark. Class B, 25-30 miles. If the roads are clear and the projected evening temperature is above 30 degrees, we'll ride the quiet back roads of Gloucester and Salem Counties in southern New Jersey. Bring lights and wear reflective clothing. Call or email leader to confirm that the ride is happening. Start 6:00 at Albert's Organics, Bridgeport, NJ. From Phila, take 95 South to Rt 322 East, over the Commodore Barry Bridge to NJ. Then first exit onto Rt 130S for about 1 mile, and first left onto High Hill Road. Night Riders. Class C, 10-20 miles. As the daylight fades, we don our bike lights and ride into the dark. Come for a spin through southern Delco. Lights and reflectors and other night riding gear are necessary. Meet at 6:00 in the parking lot of the Pathmark on MacDade Blvd in Folsom, Ridley Township. This ride will continue through the winter. However, the ride may be canceled because of the weather, including the cold. You must call the leader to confirm ride is going. Fridays

Wallyball. March 8 and 22. Come to The Aquatic & Fitness Center at Riverside Racquet, 600 Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd, at 7 PM for a fun and invigorating game of Wallyball. What is it? Volleyball in a racquetball court. We play until at least 9:00. Cost is $7.50 per person. Bring your own lock for a locker.
