Saturday, October 2 - Hawk Mountain Challenge. Class B, 14-16 mph, 65 miles and B-, 13-14 mph, 55 miles. After replenishing our equipment with treasures we find at the Trexlertown swap meet, which starts at 9, we'll head out to explore the fall colors and bucolic back roads leading up to Hawk Mountain. Those who enjoy the challenge can climb the mountain (the 65-mile route), then come back down (much, much faster) to meet up with the rest of the group (55 miles). There will be two groups, B (led by Eduardo and Dave), and B- (led by Jeff). Meet fed and hydrated outside the velodrome track entrance at 11:00 for the B- group, 11:30 for the B. This will be a joint ride with the Lehigh Wheelmen. Leaders: David L. Sunday, October 3 - Apples and Oranges. Class B, 68- and 85-mile options at 15 mph, rolling to hilly. From the Brandywine valley we'll travel to the Octoraro Creek and reach Gap for a nice meal at mile 45. From Gap, those opting for the shorter route will head back to the Brandywine valley on their own (or in company of a cue sheet). Those opting for the longer route will reach the Conestoga Valley after some climbing and get back to the Brandywine after more climbing over Welsh Mt. Starts at 8 from Downingtown, Pa. From King of Prussia take US 202 south to US 30 west and exit on SR 282, Wallace Ave. Turn left at the end of the ramp and park in first small parking lot on the right side of the road, where the port-a-potty is. Sunday, October 3 - B Ramble: Willow Grove and Richboro. Class B, 40- mile and 55+ mile versions. Rest stop at about 20 miles. Leader will continue on longer version to see some of the few remaining farms in lower Bucks County. Detailed instructions will be available for 40- mile return. Sunday, Oct 3 - Wissahickon Valley. Class D, 25+/- miles. Start at noon at the top of Forbidden Drive on Northwestern Ave for a trip to the Art Museum. The return trip will be a little hilly but that's always part of the fun. Departure time is noon and wide tires are suggested. If this is you first time down Forbidden Drive, I guarantee it won't be your last. Bring money, food, and water. Leader: Len Langsdorf, 215-826-6998 (work), 610-278-7779 (home).

Saturday, October 9 - Doylestown Breakfast. Class B-, 13-14 mph, 45 or 70 miles. We will leave the Italian Fountain at 7:30 sharp (70-mile option) and head for Bruno's to pick up riders there for the 45-mile option. Will leave Bruno's at 8:30, head to the Cyberstop Cafe in Doylestown for breakfast (bring money). This is a relatively flat ride with a few short climbs. Canceled if it is raining at 7:15. Saturday, October 9 - Old City. Class: C, 12-14 mph, 35+ miles. Meet at 8:30 at the Pathmark parking lot in Folsom, Delaware County, and ride into Philly to the Art Museum. Then we will head across the city, through the old parts of town, and end up in the Queen Village area. Brunch at the Famous Deli on Bainbridge Street and then return. Saturday, October 9 - Southern Camden County. Class C+/C, 13-16 mph, 30-35 miles. This ride will start at 9:30 from Berlin Park, Rt 30 (White Horse Pike) & Park Drive in Berlin, NJ. Sunday, October 10 - Apples and Bananas. Class B, 60- and 80- mile options at 15 mph, rolling to hilly. Both options include a fair amount of climbing in the first 25 miles. Afterwards both rides are mostly rolling with an occasional hill. Both loops follow very lightly traveled roads in Berks County but the 80-mile loop also goes as far as the foothills of the Blue Mt. ridge in Lehigh County. Great vistas at the top of every hill, a visit to Kutztown and the beautiful Oley Valley at the end of the ride. You can't go wrong with either loop. 60-milers will be on their own after mile 27. Starts 8:30 from Douglassville, Pa. From King of Prussia take SR 422 west. When the expressway ends, turn right at the first light onto SR 662 North and follow SR 662 for about 3 miles. Turn left onto Weavertown Rd at the Amity Primary Care small sign. The school is on the left. Turn left at the first road (Old Airport Rd), then left again at the first driveway by the cemetery into the school lot. Approximately 30-minute drive from King of Prussia. Sunday, October 10 - B Ramble: Bryn Mawr. Class B, 14-15 mph, 40 miles. Let's make the most out of the rest of the season. Meet at the Italian Fountain at noon and head out through Bryn Mawr and beyond. Stop half way at the Bagel Shop (I recommend the tuna on rye). Sunday, Oct 10 - 8th Annual Tree Ride. Class D, 10-15 miles. Meet at noon at Italian Fountain. Joint ride with Philadelphia Green's Tree Tenders, accompanied by Bartlett Tree Experts, as well as Mindy Maslin and Sid Ozer. A family-friendly tour of the historic and notable trees of South Philly and the Naval Business Development Center. You may also join the ride at the Naval Center. Saturday October 16 - Ott's to View the Mums. Class C, many mileage options. Leave Cheltenham Tookany Park at 8, (for 90-mile loop), the Art Museum at 8:30 (60 miles), Spring Mill at 10 (40 miles), Betzwood at 11, (25 miles) or Oaks at 11:30 (15 miles). Sunday, October 17 - Oranges and Bananas. Class B, 50- and 96-mile options at 15 mph, hilly. This beautiful century ride will take you over 4 counties: Chester, Lancaster, Lebanon and Berks. The century option starts at 8 from Warwick County Park near Morgantown, Pa, while those opting for the half-century option will meet the group in Terre Hill around 10 (call or email if interested). Both loops climb South Mt. for a terrific descent on the way back from Lebanon county to Lancaster. Two stops on the century route. Pa Turnpike to Exit 312 (Downingtown); SR 100 north; left on SR 23 west for about 3 miles; left on Park Road which is very easy to miss, then left into park (if you go as far as St. Peter's Rd, you just missed it). Saturday, October 23 - Somewhere in Montgomery County. Class B-, 13-14 mph, about 45-60 miles. Skippack, Schwenksville, New Hope? All destinations are rolling terrain with a steeper climb here and there. I'll bring cue sheets for whatever destination suits my mood and the weather. Sunday, October 24 - Apples and Apples. Class B, 73- and 90+ mile options at 15 mph, hilly. This virtual century ride starts with a visit to the nice town of Easton, Pa while traffic is light early Sunday morning. We'll then continue north following the Delaware River to explore a number of pretty hills in Warren County, NJ. Stops in Belvidere and Asbury (the shorter route takes a leaderless shortcut between these 2 towns, cue sheet only). Starts at 8 from Nockamixon State Park, Haycock Boat Access parking lot, about 40 minute drive from Willow Grove, Pa. Take SR 611 north, left on SR 412, go for about a mile and turn left onto SR 563 to first parking lot on the left, immediately after bridge. Call night before if weather is questionable. Sunday, October 24 - MTB on the Wissahickon Trails. Class B/C. Starts from Valley Green (upper parking lot) at 9. We ride for approximately 2 hours. We'll get familiar with the decidedly more technical terrain of the Wissahickon Valley with an eye toward future night routes. Please note: a trail permit is required! Saturday October 30 - Perkiomen Trail. Class B, approx 65-70 miles, mostly flat and unpaved. We start from Elm & Forrest Sts in Conshohocken at 8. We will check out the leaves in fall along the Perkiomen on our way to either an indoor or outdoor lunch at Green Lane, depending on the weather. There will be several stops for food. Sunday October 31 - Scenic Schuylkill Century - Minus the Easy Half. Class B-/C, 11-13 mph, about 50 miles, hills. Start at 9:00 from Betzwood on Schuylkill River Trail. Basically this is the more strenuous part of the Scenic Schuylkill Century, through Chester County with a brunch stop at the Red Rooster. For the fatigued rider, after we traverse the tougher part of the ride, a 7-mile shorter and easier return route is available. Meet at the bulletin board adjacent to the parking lot on the right. This is not a ride for beginners. We will stop and regroup as required. Cue sheets provided. Bring beverage, snack and cash. A multi-club ride. Sunday Morning Breakfast Ride. Class C, up to 30 miles. Meet 8:45 at the SE corner of 22nd & Spring Garden for a delightful ride to a delightful place to have a delightful breakfast. Bring locks and money for brunch in the middle of the ride. We always need volunteers to lead us to delightful eating spots and pretty biking areas. This will be a 70 +/- mile ride to Collegeville, so come prepared for an all-day ride.

Bulldog Ride. Sept. 26 ONLY. For strong B riders. 50-60 miles. One short rest stop at a Wawa type store. The main difference between this ride and the B ramble is that it is longer and the rest stop is shorter (it is not lunch!) We will go to Paoli or Doylestown as the group wishes. No cue sheet, so everyone sticks together and the leader can't be dropped. Meets at the Bulldog statue at 25th St & Pennsylvania Ave, we leave at noon sharp. Leader: Bruce Taubman, 215- 725-7935. B Ramble. Class B, 14-15 mph, approx. 40 miles. Meet at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum at noon. Check the Monthly Calendar for leaders, ride descriptions, and cancellations.

Pennypack Park. Class C, 12-13 mph, 17 miles. Departure time is usually noon and the ride usually leaves from the city's far northeast section and heads downstream toward the Delaware River by way of Pennypack Park's paved road--but check with the leader for cancellations and variations in start time and location. Usual departure location: Pollok Elementary School on Welsh Road (across from Tolbut St.) lower parking lot. Sunny Sunday Afternoon Ride. Class D, usually 12-25 miles. This ride is for the beginner who wishes to improve his or her cycling skills and for those new to Philadelphia who want to explore the out-of-the- way places in the city and near suburbs. Most Sundays we meet at noon at the Italian Fountain. Please be considerate and call or email the ride leader; rides with no callers may be canceled. Sunny Sunday Spin-Off Ride. Class C, usually 25-30 miles. A true C ride which cheerfully waits to regroup. All welcome. Meets 12:15 at the rock near the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. Tuesdays

Vocabulary Ride. Class C, 12-14 mph, 15-20 miles. Join us for an evening spin through parts of Delaware County and maybe learn a sesquipedalian word. Meet us at 6 PM at the Pathmark on MacDade Blvd in Folsom. Leader: Dave Trout, 610-368-0760, dmtrout@usa.net.

Kolman's Tuesday and Thursday Rides. Class C, 12-14 mph, 20-25 miles. I will hold the "C" pace but faster riders are welcome to ride and there are many breakaway opportunities. Come out and enjoy the evenings. Leader: Kolman Kleinbord, 856-787-9677, kolman39@hotmail.com.

Narberth ChainSmokers. Class B, 15-16 mph, 33-35 miles. Our 2004 training rides through the back roads of the Mainline go to Valley Forge before returning. Schuylkill Trail. Class C+, 25+ miles. Meet at the Spring Mill parking lot of the Schuylkill Trail at 6:30 PM. Riding towards Valley Forge and beyond, this will be a chance to keep the legs in shape and get in some after-work miles without having to dodge potholes and cars. As the season progresses, the pace will be adjusted as we get in better shape, but feel free to break away and stretch your legs at any time. Wednesdays

Marlton. Class B, 15-17 mph, 20-25 miles. Come for a beautiful ride thru Marlton, Medford, & Shamong. We'll start in Marlton at the Kings Grant Development, progress thru Medford, and then into Shamong and back. If there's any interest, we can do one or two fast 3 mile loops around Kings Grant at the end of the ride. Meet at Kings Grant shopping center (2nd entrance), make right on Merchants Way. Glenside. Class B/B+, 16-17 mph, approximately 30 miles. Come explore the interesting and diverse roads of eastern Montgomery County! We'll ride until dark on routes that are moderately hilly and generally lightly traveled. Meet at Keswick Cycles on Easton Road just North of Keswick Ave in Glenside, for a prompt 6:30 PM departure. Delco: You Show and We'll Go. Class C, 12-14 mph, 15-20 miles. Whoever shows up goes on the ride through southern Delaware County. Meet at the Pathmark on MacDade Blvd in Folsom Meet us at the Pathmark on MacDade Blvd in Folsom for a 6 PM start. Leader: Dave Trout, 610-368- 0760, dmtrout@usa.net.

Thursdays

Bryn Mawr Local, Class B+, 16-17 mph, +/- 30 miles. Meet at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum at 5:45 PM for a prompt 6:00 start. We'll do a variation of the original Wednesday/Thursday night rides - out to Conshohocken, returning on River Road and the Bike Path. Leader: Vernon Lucas, 215-815-9137, vernon.lucas@verizon.net.

Bryn Mawr Local. B version. 15 mph, about 30 miles. Meet at the Italian Fountain at 5:45 PM for a prompt 6:00 start. We ride out to West Conshohocken through Merion and Gladwyne, returning on River Road and the Bike Path. We ride together as a group, doing our best not to drop anyone. Narberth ChainSmokers. Class B, 15-16 mph, 33-35 miles. See Tuesdays for ride description.

Training Ride. Class C+, approximately 26 miles, 14 mph. No one will be dropped. Departs 6 PM sharp from Italian Fountain and returns by 8. We'll do variations of the full 3-hill ride. Mountain Bike Ride in Wissahickon Park. Class B or C, approx 6-12 miles. We meet at the parking lot just west of the Valley Green Inn at 5:45 and leave by 6 PM. We usually have 2 rides: intermediate and advanced. Note that we bike the trails, not Forbidden Drive. Helmets are mandatory. Rain cancels. You should get a Wissahickon Park permit - cost is as little as $10 (the fee is really an annual contribution to the Fairmount Park). You can get an application in the park OR CALL 215-685-0014 and they can fax or mail you an application. You can also download one from the BCP web site: http://www.phillybikeclub.org/permit.html. Fridays

Freaky Friday Ride. Sept. 24 ONLY. Class B, 40 miles. Meet at 9:00 at Laurel Acres Park in Mt Laurel, NJ. Rt 38 to South Church St, south on S. Church St approximately 2 miles to park entrance on left. One food/restroom stop. Practice paceline riding on quiet, flat S. Jersey roads. Wallyball. Sept 10 & 24. Come to the Aquatic & Fitness Center at Riverside Racquet at 600 Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd at 7 PM for a fun and invigorating game of Wallyball. What is that, you ask? Good question - it's volleyball in a racquetball court. We play until at least 9:00. Cost is $7.50 per person. Bring your own lock for a locker. Krank with Kolman. Class C, 30-40 miles, 12-14 mph. This is wonderful, open flat to slightly rolling farm land. Come on down and discover a new area to ride. We will hold a "C" pace but faster riders are welcome and may ride off. Call to confirm ride. Rain one hour before cancels. Meet 8:00 at baseball field parking lot, Sharp & Columbia Sts, Millville, NJ. From 55 S, take exit 27. Go south. Cross light. Bear right at the Y. Stay right at second Y. Go about 1 mile. MTB Belmont Plateau. Class C/D. We'll meet 10:00 at the Italian Fountain for a 3-hour ride. The trails are crushed rock, dirt and maybe a creek crossing, wide fire roads and twisty singletrack and a few climbs for spice! A MTB or cyclo-cross or hybrid bike will work; you should have a permit, see BCP website for link. Use bug repellent like OFF! or anything with DEET.
