Saturday, August 31 - New Hope to Frenchtown. Class B, 15-16 mph, 62 miles. Through New Jersey's Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. Plenty of pristine roads with little traffic. There are a few hills. Sunday, September 1 - Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun. It's Two Rides, Two Rides, Two Rides In One. Class B, approx. 50 miles. OK all you mileage pigs, here's your chance. Meet at the Italian Fountain at 8:00 for a 25 mile ride to Media, Pa. We will stop for a quick bite, then head back to Phila, arriving in time to meet the B Ramblers. Monday, September 2 - Ridley Creek to Brandywine Creek. Class B+/B, approx. 50 miles. Meet 8:45 at Ridley Creek State Park, picnic area #15, for a ride into the northern part of Delaware State. Friday, September 6 - Bike to the Ballpark. All Classes. See great baseball in a stadium the Phillies can only dream about--with Flying Fish on tap and real food, not that Vet plastic stuff. Meets 6 PM at Trophy Bikes, 311 Market St. Ride over Ben Franklin Bridge walkways for a 6:35 game start. After the game, we'll slip back to the Ben Franklin (open till 10 PM) while everyone else is stuck in the parking lot and enjoy the after-game fireworks from the Ben walkway (optional ferry ride back--about $5). Saturday, September 7 - Port Deposit. Class B, 82 miles, approx. 14-15 mph. Starts 8:00 from Kennett Square High School at Rt 82 & Broad Street in Kennett Square, Pa. We will ride to the Tome Restaurant in Port Deposit to have lunch on the deck overlooking the Susquehanna Drive, with other stops along the way in Nottingham and Landenberg. Saturday, September 7 - West from Fort Washington. Class B+/B, 15+ mph, 65-70 miles. We'll head west from Fort Washington State Park for a moderately paced ride in search of country roads. Depending on the crowd we may up the pace, but we will regroup at the top of hills - no one will be dropped. Meet at 8:15 for an 8:30 start near the bird watch area, top of hill from the park entrance off Militia Hill near Rt 73. *** For anyone wanting a little more, meet me at my starting place, Roychester Park, for a prompt 7:30 departure. Roychester Park is at the corner of Harding Ave & Parkview Ave in Abington. From the intersection of Routes 611 and 63, follow Rt 63 East two blocks, turn right on Harding Ave then left into parking lot. Sunday, September 8 - Rue de la Lune. Class B/B+, 65 miles, 15 mph avg, rolling to hilly terrain. Beautiful creeks and covered bridges along both sides of the Delaware River in upper Bucks and Hunterdon counties. One food stop in Frenchtown. Starts 9:00 from Central Park (not in New York!!), just south of Doylestown, on Wells Rd between Lower State and Turk Rds. Take 309 North, at end of expressway exit at route 63 and go straight at the light onto Lower State Rd. At County Line Rd turn left and then right to continue on Lower State Rd for 5.5 miles. Turn right onto Wells Rd. Park is 1.0 mile on your left. You can also take SEPTA R5 to Doylestown, which leaves Market East at 7:25 and arrives at Delaware Valley College station at 8:35 (2 miles from park). From DVC station follow the tracks trough the campus and then turn right on New Britain Rd, right on Lower State Rd and next left on Wells Rd. Call if weather is questionable. Ride will use the paved section of the new Perkiomen trail to Pawlings Rd, then head west. Bring snacks and liquids as there will be no convenience store along the route. Bring out your beginner friends and relatives and join a beginner class of cyclists as they take their first group ride. Sunday, September 15 - Picnic and Poker. Class C, 40 miles. Meet 9:00 in the riverside picnic area of Washington Crossing State Park. We will ride up to Frenchtown along the D&R tow path and rail trail. The surface is compacted quarry grit. It can accommodate a road bike, but a hybrid or mtn bike is recommended. At stops during the ride and at the picnic, riders will pick cards for a poker hand. The best hand will take the pot. If you want to play, ante is $1. For the picnic after: hot dogs, veggie burgers, soft drinks/juice, charcoal, and grills will be provided. Please bring a covered dish, beverages, and food to grill. Call to let us know what you are bringing. Or just bring your bike. North on I-95, then N.J. 29 North immediately after crossing the Scudders Falls Bridge. Continue north on N.J. 29 for approx 8 miles to Mercer County Road 546. Left, then quick right. Go to the back of parking area. Or take SEPTA's R3 train #4308 lv 30th St Sta at 7:30, arr West Trenton sta at 8:34 (Sun. trains run hourly). Bike N.J. 29 or the canal path, about 5 miles to the park. Saturday, September 28 - Lunch in Doylestown. Class C, 60 miles. Starts 9 AM from the Italian Fountain. This is a re-listing of a July rain out. An Ann Martha original, designed for C riders who are slower but capable of riding longer distances. If you can do the distance, ride with Ann to Doylestown and back. Sunday, September 29 - Around Hunterdon County in 80 Miles. Class B/B+. Approx 80 miles at 15 mph avg, hilly. A shorter and slightly less hilly version of the ride we did last June. If you were able to do all those centuries this month, you can certainly do this one (not even a century!). The ride is mostly in New Jersey and loops between the nice towns of Frenchtown and Califon. Beautiful shady roads along rushing streams. Starts at 9:00 from Bulls Island State Park on Route 29, 3 miles north of Stockton, NJ. Take your favorite road to Willow Grove and then follow Route 263 (York Rd) all the way to the end at the Delaware River (don't fall into the water!). Cross the river into Stockton, NJ and at the T, turn left onto Route 29 and continue for 3 miles, the park is on the left side of the road. Call if weather is questionable. Sunday, September 29 - Chesterbrook to St. Matthews. Class C, about 35 miles, 11+ mph avg. Meet at the Manhattan Bagel Shop in the Chesterbrook Center at 8:00 for breakfast. Ride starts at 8:30. One challenging hill plus a few less cumbersome climbs - a beautiful ride up to and over St. Matthews Rd. We then swing back via Pughtown and Kimberton. Continue on BikePA S route East, cover a bit of the new section of the Schuylkill River Bike Trail to Betzwood, thru Valley Forge Park and back to Chesterbrook. No one left behind. We will stop/regroup as required. Cue sheets will be available. Bring snack, beverage and money.
