the annual New Hope to New York Ride, Sunday, September 3, 2006 (Rain or Shine)

Space is still available!! MUST contact Ted ASAP!, 215-333-7146

The route was developed by the late Peter Odell, and goes through the scenic countryside of central New Jersey over very gentle rolling terrain. After meandering along the South Branch of the Raritan River, you cross over the Watchung Mts. and descend into Basking Ridge. Here you will pass one of the oldest trees in America (over 633 years) and then through the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Riders take the ferry from Hoboken to Manhattan and then ride over the Brooklyn Bridge before reaching their destination in Brooklyn Heights.

BCP has arranged for riders to use the facilities of the Eastern Athletic Club in Brooklyn. Nearby are many affordable fine dining establishments, with a myriad of cuisine choices; including Thai, Italian, Greek, Indian and Continental. You'll return to New Hope and Philadelphia via motor coaches. The bicycles will be brought back by professionals, and will be there when you arrive.

Registration fee is $55 ($65 for non-BCP-members) due in by Wednesday, August 30. Fee includes motor coach trip home and a moving van for your bike, showers and whirlpool upon arrival. Dinner is on your own.

The 125-milers will leave the Art Museum (Eakins Oval) at 6 AM. Cyclists riding 90, 70, or 50 miles can board the bus at the Art Museum or drive to New Hope (Staples Plaza, 1 mile north of Route 32 on Route 179) and park.  Buses will leave the Art Museum for New Hope at 6 AM. The bus will leave New Hope approx 7:30 and drop off the 70 and 50-milers at their respective starts. After the ride, buses will depart Brooklyn at 9:00 pm sharp, stop in New Hope, and then go on to the Art Museum in Philadelphia.

Bring a bag with a change of clothes and shower essentials (the health club will have towels), which you will leave on the bus at your start location. Your bag will be waiting for you when you get to Brooklyn. Riders needing their bikes transported from the Art Museum to New Hope should bring a bungee cord and blanket for their bikes. Be sure that your bike is in good condition and that you come prepared with a pump, spare tubes, etc.

Because of the high cost of the motor coaches, we may cancel or limit the event if there are too few registrations. It's limited to 106 riders so be sure to register early. Contact  Ted Northrop  215-333-7146, for more information.
