Thursday, Aug 28 - After Work Ride. Class B, 30 miles, 15-17 mph. Art Museum to Conshohocken and Back. From the Art Museum out the Main Line, and take the bike path back to Philly. Do the hills early and the flat- out speed at the end of the ride. Training style ride, with minimal stopping. We will stay together to insure that everyone finishes the ride without getting dropped. Through the outskirts of Doylestown and other historical towns of central Bucks County: Point Pleasant, Tohickon Valley Park to Frenchtown, NJ. Class B and Class C, 62, 85 and 100 mile options. The only century that takes you to the capital of the world. Fabulous farmscapes, the Watchung Mountains, the Great Swamp Wildlife Preserve, fancy suburbs, broad boulevards, the industrial wonder of Port Elizabeth, Newark Airport, Jersey City, Hoboken, home of baseball and Frank Sinatra, ferry to Manhattan, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and the Brooklyn Bridge. The ride starts 9:00AM from parking lot #15 in Ridley Creek State Park This is a very hilly, 75 mile ride from Ridley Creek SP to French Creek SP, through Chester County. There are seven challenging hills along with other minor speed bumps. Average speed will be 13-14 MPH. Call for directions to starting point. Come and ride the trails along the scenic Pennypack Creek. If you like to ride fast or you want to better your MTB skills this is the ride you have been waiting for. Friday, Sept 5 - Wallyball. Come to the Riverside Racquet Club at 600 Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd at 6:45 for a fun and invigorating game of Wallyball. What is it? Class C+/B, This will be a sociably paced, 50 mile singles ride from the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. Is there someone in the club that you've never met that could be your someone special??? Only by attending this ride will you find out. No one will be dropped from this leisurely paced ramble! We will ride out West River Drive, along the Main Line to Valley Forge National Park, than back via the bike path. We will stop for a lunch break somewhere along the Main Line prior to entering the park. Bring snacks and fluids because there are only limited stores along the route. Meet 11:00 AM, at the Pine Road parking lot of Pennypack Park in NE Philly. SEPTA riders, take the R8 to Fox Chase Station. I will meet you there at 10:35. Come and ride the trails along the scenic Pennypack Creek. They consist of fire roads and single track. Restroom stops included! A and B riders will be led by Ted Northrop on a quick paced ride over logs, creeks and hills. C and D riders will be led by Cheryl Northrop on an easier paced ride, on much flatter terrain, yet still scenic. This is genuine MTBing in NE Philly. Come out and enjoy the trails of French Creek State Park. To carpool, meet at 9:00 AM sharp at the corner of Rising Sun Ave and Kerper St in NE Philly, or meet at 9:30 AM sharp at the Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. If you can drive and carry a few bikes on your car, or if you need a ride, please call me in advance. For those driving on their own meet us at 11:45 AM in French Creek State Park at Scotts Run Lake parking lot on the south end of the Lake. French Creek trails are hilly, rocky and roots abound. This park provides some of the most scenic woods in our area as well as being one of the best MTB'ing spots in Eastern PA. A scenic ride from Marsh Creek Reservoir to Intercourse, PA over lightly traveled back roads. The transition from Chester to Lancaster County is dramatic, as we leave the forested ridge and drop into the wide open Amish farmland. Some sharply rolling terrain around the reservoir and a long but gradual climb up the Gap Ridge. Various lunch options in Intercourse. Ride leaves from Marsh Creek State Park at 9:00AM. Class B for pace(15mph), Class A for Terrain. 55 miles, with over 5000 feet of climb. Are you up for it??? We'll meet at the Art Museum at 8 a.m. for a carpool to the start of the ride in Columbia, PA. Or meet in Columbia at 10 am for the ride start. This is a beautiful ride, with plenty of long, sustained climbs. If you've never done this ride, come out and try it. When you finish, you know you'll have accomplished something! Saturday, Oct 11 - Lunch in New Holland. Class B, 95 miles. Starts 8:00 from the Wawa in Chadds Ford at Rts 1 and 100. Ride the west branch of the Brandywine River to Glenmore for a break, then through Honeybrook and a mild climb over Welsh Mountain into New Holland where there are many places to have lunch. Returning, we will head south through the PA Dutch country, stop in Springdell and then down the beautiful east branch of the Brandywine to Chadds Ford. Avoid the mob scene at Salisbury; this ride this ride has been rated the 'best yet' by Rich Bernhard. A few hills, some long flat stretches, a very scenic ride! We will ride through the outskirts of Reading to north of the city, then east and south through the Oley Valley and some of the most beautiful areas of Berks County. This is my favorite ride and the colors of autumn hopefully will be at their maximum splendor. We'll have lunch in the town of Oley.
